About the project
Since 2003, activities of the following projects are being implemented in the Bulgarian educational system: “Supporting the development of nature conservation education in Bulgaria“, funded by Darwin initiative, DEFRA and “Environmental education at primary schools in Bulgaria”, funded by MATRA program, The Netherlands. The Ministry of Education and Science (MOES), and the Ministry of Environment and Waters (MOEW) also support these projects.
The results of the project combine the efforts of education experts from Bulgaria and partners from the EU, for an educational partnership and collaboration, in support of UNECE’s European Strategy for Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development, Bulgaria’s National Plan for Biodiversity Protection, and the National Strategy and Action Plan for 2006-2014 of MOES.
The purpose of the project is to build the capacity of education decision makers, teacher trainers and teachers to enhance the quality and effectiveness of nature conservation education in the formal school curriculum.
In the frameworks of the both projects, team consultants from United Kingdom, the Nederland and Bulgaria developed:
• Program for supporting of education for sustainable development in Bulgaria.
• Informational packages for educators and teachers qualification.
• Educational programs for mandatory selected education (MSE) on subject Environment for 1-4 grade.
• Education materials for 1-4 grade for mandatory selected education (MSE) on subject Environment for 1-4 grade and teachers books.
• Informational network and web page.
